Pierless Fish is a no nonsense Brooklyn-based seafood company run by Long Island native Robert "Bob" DeMasco. Bob started the company with former partner, Mark Agger, back in 1999 and has worked with the fishing and culinary industries to build a uniquely conscientious business that offers a wide variety of products. But, Bob would simply say, "its really a love of food and knowing so many chefs that led to Pierless's creation!"
Bob, doesn't have a fabled connection to the fishing industry. He's just someone who built a strong company and gained knowledge over decades because of a passion. Bob will tell you, "Sure, when I was young my mom hand harvested clams, but the reason I got into this business was because I needed a job, you know. And I stayed in it because it became something I loved. I literally can talk about fish for hours and couldn't imagine doing anything else!"
Off-kilter, quirky, and always with an element of humor, Bob and the Pierless family have been cultivating a newfound approach in an old school industry. We have always focused on local and sustainable products. It's not because of business trends or because these methods make for good marketing, its because the fishing industry simple can't survive any other way. As Bob would bluntly say: "We have to make sure that there's actually freakin' fish out there to catch!"
Fresh from the piers of the Brooklyn Navy Yard for the last decade, we recently moved south to Sunset Park. From our Brooklyn home we've been lucky enough to serve as a wholesaler for some of the top restaurants and chefs in New York City and around the country, including: Andrew Carmellini of Locanda Verde, Dutch, and Lafayette; Dan Barber of Blue Hill; Mike Anthony of Gramercy Tavern; Marc Meyer of Cook Shop, 100 Acre, and Five Points.
Although Pierless will continue serving as a wholesaler, we now set sail on a new journey by serving directly to consumers and all those looking for healthy food options and locally sourced seafood. We offer everything from non-traditional fish fare like Uni and Branzino to the seafood staples like Halibut, Wild Striped Bass, Scallops, and Atlantic Cod. We believe in fish-to-dish where by knowing more about the fishermen, the chefs, and the science within the industry, people can enjoy and appreciate our products more. We provide fresh food and support those who work and care about where their products come from.
